South Australia changes – all labour hire providers need licensing now
Queensland licensees operating in South Australia should ensure they comply with new labour hire licensing requirements. Previously, the South Australian laws applied only to providers in the horticulture, meat and seafood processing, cleaning, and trolley collection industries.
Providing labour hire services without the required licence in another State, Territory or under a Commonwealth scheme may contravene the relevant law and provide grounds for cancelling a Queensland labour hire licence.
As at 29 January 2026, all labour hire providers servicing South Australia must have submitted their license applications.
Under the reforms, providers in the newly added industries had six months to obtain a licence. This transition period ended on 29 July 2026. The South Australian Consumer and Business Services (CBS) still advise applicants to allow four weeks for the application process.
