Compliance with legal obligations

Licensed labour hire providers that do not comply with their obligations may have their licence suspended or cancelled.

As the Labour Hire Licensing Compliance Unit (LHLCU), we assess applications against the licensing criteria and may refuse an application if we are not satisfied that an applicant meets the licensing criteria including, they are fit and proper persons and the business is financially viable.

We may impose conditions when granting a licence or at any time during the licence period. These conditions help us monitor a provider’s compliance with their obligations.

By publishing our licensing decisions, we increase public awareness of the labour hire licensing scheme and:

  • promote compliance with the Labour Hire Licensing Act 2017 and other legal obligations
  • protect labour hire workers and labour hire providers who operate ethically and responsibly
  • maintain the Register of Licensed Labour Hire Providers.

If you engage labour hire services, use the tools on the LHLCU website to ensure your provider holds a valid licence:

  • Check the online register to ensure the provider is licensed.
  • Report suspected non-compliant or unlawful activity using the lodge a report tool or by calling 1300 576 088
