The Labour Hire Licensing Compliance Unit (LHLCU) recently partnered with the Queensland Fire Department (QFD) to conduct field visits across Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt region. Through our visits with farmers, we raised awareness of the labour hire licensing scheme and promoted compliance. We covered a range of topics during information sessions, including checking work rights and visa conditions, maintaining safe workplaces and using licensed labour hire providers.
LHLCU inspectors and QFD officers also carried out joint inspections at several residential properties that house labour hire workers in the region. During these inspections, QFD identified residences that did not meet some of the requirements of the Fire Services Act 1990 and the Building Act 1975. QFD is working with landlords and property owners to address non-compliance issues and ensure they meet fire safety standards.
The visits also gave us valuable insight into QFD’s approach to delivering fire safety education to the community. Through discussions with farmers and labour hire providers, QFD helped them better understand their obligations when providing accommodation that meets fire safety standards.
Our collaboration with QFD in the Granite Belt provided an opportunity to create positive interactions while reinforcing the message of safety with farmers and labour hire providers. This work supports the LHLCU’s ongoing commitment to protecting workers from exploitation and supporting safe workplaces and accommodation. These joint agency collaborations continue to strengthen as we work together to address non-compliant behaviour and maintain the integrity of Queensland’s labour hire industry.
